Although for many people the Internet and the World Wide Web are interchangeable terms, this is not accurate; the World Wide Web is an application of the Internet. The World Wide Web allows for the exchange of documents formatted in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) which facilitates text, graphics and layout. As the World Wide Web has grown in popularity, its capabilities have expanded to include the exchange of video, audio, animation and other specialized documents.
